Where should I put my pump?

Pump Placement

It is important to position your pump in the right part of your pond. Where your pump should go depends on the type of pump and the shape of your pond.

Filter Pump

Filter Pumps

The best place to put your filter pump is in the deepest part of your pond, on the bottom. This will maximise circulation and the pump will collect debris from the bottom of the pond and reduce sludge build-up.

Fountain Pump

Fountain Pumps

For optimum effect, the fountain-head on a fountain pump should be level with the surface of the water. This means that it may not always be possible for you to place it in the deepest part of your pond and will probably have to raise the pump up to get it to the surface. A pump stand is an easy way to do this.

Irregular shaped ponds

If you have an irregularly shaped pond (such as a kidney shape) then the pump should be at the opposite side of the pond to the filter inlet to maximise cirulation.
