Why should I use underlay?
Putting underlay in your pond protects your liner from sharp stones, roots and other things that could tear it. Some people like to use old carpet or newspaper as underlay, but these aren't a good idea as they will rot down and stop protecting your liner over time. Bradshaws recommend that you use Permalay or Polyfibrelay. Both of these will last and will protect your liner for years to come. Permalay is our most popular underlay and comes free with our 35 year liners. This underlay is puncture and tear-resistant and will protect your liner for a long time. If your ground is especially stony, you may want to use Polyfibrelay Underlay. This is thicker than Permalay, rot-proof and made to last a lifetime. Bradshaws' extensive guarantees on Polyex liner can only be offered when you use one of these underlays.
