What Type of Pond Vacuum Should I Buy?

With so many pond vacuums on the market it can be confusing to choose the one that is right for you. We hope that the information below will help you to decide.

There are three main types of pond vacuum available:

Pond Monsta Pond Vacuum

In-pond Vacuums

This type of vacuum has a handle that you hold and a head with a pump in that goes into the water. It's basically a pump on a stick!

A constant flow of dirt is sucked up through the head of the vacuum and up a hose and down a drain or onto your flower beds (it makes excellent fertilizer).

Bradshaws have two different in-pond vacuums available: the Blagdon Pond Monsta (pictured) and the Hozelock Pond Vac.

These are our most popular vacuums. They are easy to store, lighter and more easy to manoeuvre than pond-side vacuums and are the most powerful and economical pond vacuums available.

This type of vacuum does remove water from your pond, but a collection basket is available for the Pond Monsta if you would rather recycle the water.

Oase Pondovac 3

Pond-Side Vacuums

This type of vacuum has a main body that sits on the side of your pond, which is connected to the vacuum head by plastic hose. The dirt is sucked up the hose and into the body of the vacuum. When the vacuum is full, the dirt is emptied out through another hose.

The cheapest of these pond-side vacuums (the Oase Pondovac Start) will stop to empty before you can continue to vacuum, but the Pondovac 3 and the Gardena Aquamotion both have continuous flow.

These vacuums come with either a strainer bag or a collection tray, so you can recycle your pond water if you wish.

Tensor Pond Vacuum

Hose Powered Vacuums

This type of vacuum attaches onto your garden hose. When the water is turned on, a low pressure area is created in the head of the vacuum. This sucks up debris from the pond.

These vacuums are only really suitable for ponds of 60cm deep or less. They will add tap water to your pond.
