What is a pond filter system?

A pond filter system is made up of three main items:

• Filter - The filter works in two ways, mechanically and biologically. Mechanical filtration means removing the solid particles that cloud the water. Biological filtration is removing the pollutants that can harm the fish.
• UVC - This is an Ultra Violet Clarifier. This clumps the algae into large pieces which are then trapped in the filters foam.
• Pump - This moves water from the pond to the filter box and also helps oxygenate the water.

Which System should I use for my pond?

This depends on the size of your pond and the type and volume of fish you have. If you are at all unsure, it is always best to seek professional advise. All our operators are highly trained and will be able to advise you.

Can I install the whole system together?

How often do I need to change the bulb in the UVC?

This should be done once a year as a matter of maintenance. The best time is at the beginning of the season, around April, when the sun is starting to get stronger.

What maintenance is required on a pump?

The pump should be checked on a regular basis throughout the summer. This is when it is most likely to become blocked with algae or blanket weed.

Can I let the filter system run all year?

Yes. The pump and filter box should run all year, but the UVC can be switched off. By keeping the pump and filter box running it will prevent the pond from freezing over in the winter months and also help to keep oxygen levels up.

How often do I feed my fish?

In summer you can feed two to three times a day. Make sure that all food is eaten. If any is left this means you are over feeding. No feeding is required during the winter months.
