Your simple guide to planning a pond
Planning a pond can be easy and the results spectacular if you follow our simple guidelines:
 
Find the best location
 

It's best to site your pond where it will get partial shade and away from trees or hedges which could drop leaves into the water. 

Choose a shape
  Ponds can be made to any shape to suit your garden - smooth curves or regular shapes are the easiest. 
Get the right depth
  The depth is influenced by what you're going to keep in your pond - goldfish ponds can be 3ft deep whilst a koi pond should be at least 4ft deep. 
Decide the type of construction
 

The most popular option is using a pond liner - cost effective and long lasting it lets you create the exact shape and style of pond you want. Or you could build your pond from concrete - the strongest type of foundation it requires careful planning and construction.
