Connecting up your Pond Pump and Filter

Filter System

To connect your pond filter to your pump, you will need some hose and some clips to keep it in place. If you have an external UVC, this will need to be postitioned between your pump and filter (see image). If you just have a pump and filter, these will be connected together with just one length of hose.

Connecting up your filter is pretty straightforward. Once you have decided on the right pump and filter, look at the outlet hose size from the pump. This will usually be a range of sizes (often between 20-40mm). You should use the biggest size hose you can, as this will maximise water flow.

So for example:
An
Aquaforce 2500 pump has an outlet size of 20-40mm and a Bioforce 5500 filter has an inlet size of 20-25mm. To connect these two together we would need 25mm hose and clips, as this is largest size they can both take.

An Oase Aquamax takes 20-40mm hose and a Lotus Green Genie filter takes a 20-25mm hose, so to connect them you would use a 25mm hose (the largest size that they both take).

You’ll need hose clips to secure the hose in place and these should be the same size as the hose (so for a 25mm hose you need a 25mm clip). One clip is needed for each of the connections, usually one at the pump and one at the filter ( pressurised filters will have another on the outlet of the filter).
