Your simple guide to selecting a
pump for your pond
A pond pump is perhaps
the most important piece of equipment you can purchase for your
pond. It is important
that you select the correct pump for both the size of your pond and
what you want it to do.
Follow our
simple tips designed to help you select the correct pump to
suit your pond:
Creating A Healthy Pond
All pond
pumps draw oxygen into the water. Oxygen is essential to keep both
your fish and pond healthy, especially during hot weather.
Producing A Fountain
Fountain
pumps are specially designed to let you quickly and easily create a
fountain of water in your pond. All come with a choice of heads to
determine the shape of fountain. The size of fountain you can
create is controlled by the output of the pump.
Powering A Waterfall
A waterfall
or stream will add an extra dimension to your garden. You can use a
fountain pump, a high pressure pump or a filter pump to take the
water from your pond and pump it to the top of a waterfall or head
of a stream. When moving a lot of water or if your waterfall is a
lot higher than the surface of your pond we recommend using a
high pressure pump, ideal for waterfalls over 2m high.
Filtering The
Water
Filter pumps
take the dirty water from your pond and pump it to the top of a
waterfall or into a filter. These pumps take the lumps of waste
matter from the pond without clogging and so require little
maintenance.
Once you have
chosen the type of pump you need for your pond, use the flow rate
(lph) from the pond volume calculator to choose the correct size of
pump for your pond.
