The Velda
skimmer has
been specifically designed to filter out the small and fine
annoying particles that collect on the surface of your pond. The skimmer will take out debris such as; dust, pollen, leaves
and twigs. This makes the Velda skimmer an ideal purchase for
anyone who experiences problems with surface debris. One of the
other main reasons though for people buying skimmers is
for the removal of duckweed and pond foam, so again if this is a
problem on your pond, a skimmer
is
essential!
The Velda pond
skimmer works
continuously, and comes with a reliable 2000 Lph pump
that will allow 24 hour a day functioning. The skimmer
will adjusts for the depth
of your water, so you don't need to worry about setting
the skimmer
to a height. You can
also anchor the skimmer
in place, this can be handy if
you know surface debris build up in a certain
area.
Cleaning of the Velda
Skimmer is very
easy, the green collection basket can be quickly removed and
hosed down within seconds, cleaning and reassembling it will
take no longer than 5 minutes, make sure you turn the unit off
before removing from the pond! Underneath the collecting basket
there are two layers of Japanese matting, which is one of the
best filter media on the market, this will filter out all the small
particles that are missed by the collecting basket. To clean the
matting I would say just to hose it down, don’t worry
about the bacteria, as its not there for filtration purposes. If
you look below you will see, the green collecting basket and the
two different layers of matting that are taken out in order as
shown.

Occasionally you
will need to fully open and clean out the whole of the skimmer
unit, as shown in the
pictures below there are three stages to this. First pull and
remove the grey bottom of the Velda
skimmer unit, this will
release the black buoyancy support at the same time, put these two
items to the side and you will be left with what is in picture 2.
You will have the Velda pond
skimmer's main motor that
will unscrew from the grey collection tub. Turn it anti clockwise
and this will release. You can then access the motor which just
needs to be pulled out of place. Once all the parts are removed
throughly clean the unit with a cloth and a hose pipe and then
repeat the process of putting the unit back together.
